The versatile defender has nothing but praise for his compatriot and feels he's destined to become an even better player

Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano believes Lionel Messi has yet to reach his peak and thinks his compatriot will only get better.

The prolific attacker is widely regarded as one of the best players in the history of the game, winning the Ballon d'Or four times between 2009 and 2012.

Yet Mascherano has stressed that the world has yet to see the best of the 27-year-old after a relatively disappointing 2013-14 campaign.

"Messi has so much to give. I don't think we have already seen the best version of him," Mascherano was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo, before praising the attacker's role in Argentina's successful World Cup campaign. 

"From the round of 16 on, Messi realised that we could not play in a certain way where we could focus on our attack. We had to prioritise and focus on defence, leaving him and [Gonzalo] Higuain a bit isolated. 

"Leo had to do his defensive work as well and that he was willing to go there shows how much of a great he is. We all knew that it was not the style he preferred, but he never complained once. 

"He prioritised the good of the team. Things were not easy for him, but we would not have reached the final without him." 

Messi netted four goals in seven appearances at the World Cup, winning the Golden Ball in the process.

At Last! Chris Oyakhilome's Wife, Anita Files for Divorce Over Adultery

After months of speculation over the marriage crisis between Christ Embassy’s Pastor, Chris Oyakhilome and wife, a new report claims the latter has now filed for a divorce in a London court.
In an exclusive report published by Gistmania, the wife is seeking a divorce on the grounds of “unreasonable behaviour” and “adultery”.
She allegedly outlined several allegations against the Pastor which cannot be published for legal reasons.
The divorce case, with Suit No FD14D01650, was filed on April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK, on Anita’s behalf by Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, a full-service law firm with expertise in commercial law and a strong consumer focus in family, wills and estate, personal injury law and medical negligence.
According to the report, Pastor Chris had been making efforts to avoid divorce in the hope that the wife would eventually have a change of mind, however, Decree nissi was served on the charismatic pastor in his hotel room during a recent visit to the UK.
Decree nissi, in legal terms, is like a yellow card in a football match which is a precursor to a red card (“decree absolute”) if no new evidence is provided to stall proceedings.
Church insiders said Oyakhilome had been hoping for rapprochement, but he was left with no option than to receive the papers when the lawyers cornered him at his hotel in London. The decree absolute, which will effectively end the marriage, is expected to be issued soon while terms of the divorce will be worked out by the lawyers on both sides.
Anita recently wanted to go public with the details of her allegations against the husband but reached an informal agreement to sheathe her sword in the interest of the church.
Recall that some church members had sometime in May 10, 2014 launched a facebook campaign, asking: “Where is Rev. Anita Oyakhilome?”
They said Pastor Chris and Rev. Anita must unite “for the sake of the gospel, the church and their two beautiful daughters”. They quoted Malachi 2:16 in the Message Bible: “I hate divorce, says the God of Israel.”
The facebook page, which has over 3,300 “likes”, was opened with a stated mission: “This is a Call to Prayer for all believers who understand God’s heart concerning marriage and a Call to Action by Pst. Chris. #DoWhatYouPreach”.
Officials of the church quickly moved to deny any rift between the pastor couple. One official, Kenneth Achumasara, told the media last June thus: “I can tell you authoritatively that there is no issue between Pastor Chris and his wife, Anita… If you go to the UK now, you will see her along with the kids. She is still with him and there is no issue between them. I have been with him for 22 years and the Pastor Chris I know cannot even utter such words as reported. He will never address such a gathering. She will soon be in Nigeria for a programme and I will definitely invite you to have access to her.”
Oyakhilome is the President of Believers’ Love World Inc, the registered name of the Christian ministry, while his wife is the Vice President.

BAYERN MUNICH CONFIRM XABI ALONSO AGREEMENT

The experienced midfielder is set to continue his career at the Bundesliga champions after losing his starting berth at Madrid and will undergo a medical imminently

Bayern Munich have announced they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Xabi Alonso, with the former Spain international travelling to Germany on Thursday to undergo his medical.

The Bundesliga champions were keen to add an extra midfielder to their squad due to the ongoing injury problems of players such as Javi Martinez, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara and they see the 32-year-old Alonso as a valuable addition.

The club were linked with a bid for Athletic Bilbao's Ander Iturraspe this week but have now confirmed it is Alonso who is poised to move to the Allianz Arena, subject to medical tests.

"It is correct that we have been in talks with Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso," Bayern executive board member Jan-Christian Dreesen said at a press conference.

"We have basically reached an agreement. The player will arrive in Munich later on Thursday to undergo his medical."

Alonso signed a new contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2016 earlier this year, but has lost his starting berth at the Santiago Bernabeu side this term as Carlo Ancelotti favours new signing Toni Kroos alongside Luka Modric and James Rodriguez in a three-man midfield.

The midfielder, who announced his decision to retire from Spain duty earlier this week, started his professional career with Real Sociedad and also played for Eibar and Liverpool before joining Madrid in the summer of 2009.

He had since made over 200 official appearances in all competitions for the Bernabeu outfit, but will now continue his career at Bayern.

Suarez: I turned down other offers to join Barcelona

The Uruguay international says that he did hesitate for a second before deciding to move to Catalunya - despite previously having been linked with the likes of Real Madrid

Luis Suarez has revealed that he did not even consider the other offers on the table before agreeing to join Barcelona because it has long been his "dream" to play with Lionel Messi and Co. at Camp Nou.

The Uruguay international completed an €81 million move to Catalunya from Liverpool earlier this summer, even though it appeared for a long time that the forward was more likely to end up at Real Madrid.

However, Suarez has explained that he has been watching Barca and their recent title successes from afar for some time now.

"When we had contact [with Barcelona] and knew of their interest, I did not hesitate for a moment because it was my dream, my desire," he stated in an interview with Barca Fans. "I rejected other options because my dream was to play here.

"After many years in Europe, first at Ajax and then Liverpool, my career had been growing and now it has reached its pinnacle by being at the best team in the world.

"I want to win the titles that [I watched Barca win] from a distance for years. I always enjoyed watching the players here, who are now my team-mates."

Suarez will not be able to make his Barcelona debut until the end of October as he received a four-month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's World Cup clash with Italy on June 24.

British Record! Manchester United Signs Angel Di Maria for $99 Million

Manchester United broke the British transfer-fee record by signing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for 59.7 million pounds ($99 million) on Tuesday, extending a summer spending spree that was sparked by its most disappointing season in a generation.

The 26-year-old Di Maria joined on a five-year contract, taking United’s spending to about 130 million pounds ($215 million) in the summer transfer window as England’s most successful club seeks to revive its fortunes under new manager Louis van Gaal.

Di Maria was one of Madrid’s key players last season when the Spanish team became European champion for a 10th time, but rejected the offer of a new contract during the off season and asked to leave.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and there were a lot of clubs interested in me, but United is the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for. Louis van Gaal is a fantastic coach with a proven track record of success and I am impressed by the vision and determination everyone has to get this club back to the top — where it belongs. I now just cannot wait to get started,” Di Maria said.

Di Maria’s transfer fee breaks the previous British record of 50 million pounds (then $81 million), set in 2011 when Fernando Torres joined Chelsea from Liverpool. Four players — Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez — have cost more than Di Maria in world football, while Zinedine Zidane moved from Juventus to Madrid for a similar fee in euro terms in 2001.

    “Angel is a world-class midfielder but most importantly he is a team player. There is no doubting his immense natural talent. He is a tremendously fast and incisive left-footed player who puts fear into the most accomplished defense. His dribbling skills and his ability to take on and beat opponents are a joy to watch. He is an excellent addition to the team,” Van Gaal said.

The left-footed Di Maria, who can play anywhere across the midfield, will provide United with an injection of pace and technical ability in that area. Both attributes were lacking last season under David Moyes, when the team slumped to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, and in the first two games of this season under Van Gaal.

It is also a statement by United that the club can attract one of the world’s most talented players despite not being in the Champions League this season. United isn’t even playing in the Europa League.

Critics say Van Gaal hasn’t addressed the team’s biggest weakness — a defense that lost three pillars in Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra this summer and has looked vulnerable in a 2-1 home loss to Swansea and a 1-1 draw at Sunderland in the two games so far in the Dutchman’s reign.

But it is the kind of marquee signing United fans have been craving. The prospect of Di Maria linking up with attacking trio Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata is an enticing one as the team bids to return to the league’s top four and get back in the Champions League.

Di Maria was man of the match in last season’s Champions League final against Atletico Madrid and one of Argentina’s best players at the World Cup in Brazil until he hurt his thigh in the quarter-final win over Belgium, forcing him to miss the semifinal and final.

He joined Real Madrid from Benfica in 2010, when he was an out-and-out winger. At Madrid last season, coach Carlo Ancelotti also played him as a central midfielder. Under contract until 2018 at Madrid, Di Maria faced increased competition in midfield following the signings of Rodriguez and Toni Kroos, and had been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Left back Luke Shaw, central midfielder Ander Herrera and defender Marcos Rojo are the other players to have moved to Old Trafford this summer in deals worth around 70 million pounds.
