DANA Air passengers retrieve luggage from aircraft

Fresh facts emerged on Thursday that the luggage of the 44 passengers that boarded the DANA Air MD 83 aircraft flight Flight 9J0363 from Abuja to Port Harcourt on Tuesday has been retrieved.
The retrieve of the luggage a source close to the airline hinted came on the heels of complaints by some of the passengers who boarded the aircraft which overshot the runway of Port Harcourt Airport due to heavy rain.
The source hinted that the Accident Investigation Bureau ( AIB), the agency saddled with the probe of air accidents and serious incidents is yet to release the aircraft to the airline.
The source said the delay in releasing the aircraft may be unconnected with detailed probe into the serious incident.
A team of investigators from the AIB , led by its director of operations, Captain Dayyabu Danraka is in Port Harcourt to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the incident and make recommendations to forestall future occurrence.
Investigations revealed that DANA Air is reaching out to some of the 44 passengers for possible post trauma treatment.
The offer for post trauma treatment , including possible payment of medical bills for those that may have sustained injuries is to reduce the pain of the affected passengers.
A source close to the airline said some of the passengers were impressed with the professionalism of the pilot in controlling the aircraft into the bush
Meanwhile, Council Protection Council (CPC) has called for calm among passengers and other stakeholders
According to a statement by signed by CPC, Director General, Babatunde Irukera, the relevant aviation authorities have secured perimeter scene of the incident with ongoing probe on the damaged aircraft.
Irukera said the Council is in communication with DANA Air and the NCAA as it awaits detailed investigations by the AIB in compliance with the standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO)
He said : “Thankfully, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated without injury. The Consumer Protection Council congratulates relevant airport and aviation authorities, as well as the airline for this safe evacuation and management of what could otherwise have been trag ic.
“The Council further calls for calm as we await more information and a detailedinvestigation by the Accident Investigation Bureau in compliance with ICAO standards. In addition, the Council has been in communication with the airline and NCAA.
“The Council understands that Dana Air has provided logistic support and accommodation to passengers. The Council insists this must comply with minimum standards in accordance with prevailing Regulations under Part 19, Nigerian Civil Aviation Rules (NCAR).
“An open, transparent, sensitive and responsive approach by the airline and relevantauthorities is vital to sustaining confidence and assuring consumers. The Council welcomes this openness and attention to consumers, including providing medical or psychological support where necessary.
“The Consumer Protection Council in collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, other aviation agencies and service providers remains available to all passengers in the sector to answer questions, provide assistance and required assurances at this and other times.”

Boy, 3, needs N9 million for heart surgery

The arrival of a new baby in any family is heralded with pomp and ceremony. It was  so on May 22, 2014 when the family of Mr and Mrs Amos Adeniyi from Ondo State were blessed with their third child, Richard.
Parents, understandably, are eager to see their children grow up well and healthy with the prospect of becoming responsible members of the society. Most parents feel disappointed and may break down, if their child that had been a source of joy, turns, as it were, to be a source of sadness and despair due to some complicated illness.
That is the mood pervading the family as their son Richard, born three years ago, has not shown any sign of “growing up well and healthy”.
According to the boy’s father, Richard was hale and hearty, full of life before last December 18. During breakfast, he could not finish his meal, he became very weak and his health condition changed as he had seizure.
Not comfortable with the situation of their son, the Adeniyis took Richard to a private hospital in Ifako from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.
He has been a patient of the Pediatric Cardiology Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos.
According to clinical evaluation, Richard has symptomatic congenital heart disease, known as Tetralogy of Fallot by Echocardio-graphy
Richard requires urgent cardiovascular evaluation and open heart surgery to correct his heart defects to forestall irreversible and life-threatening complications. His medical condition has weighed down the family physically, emotionally and financially.
Narrating his plight, he said he had spent so much and he is still buying expensive drugs, which Richard takes every eight hours to sustain him before the operation in Germany by mid-March.

Footballer David Astori, 31, found dead in Italy

“Fiorentina are profoundly shocked to have to announce the death of captain Davide Astori after a sudden illness,” the Serie A club said on Twitter.
The 31-year-old, who leaves behind a two-year-old daughter, was in Udine to prepare for Sunday’s match against Udinese.
Astori died of “natural causes” after a “cardiac circulatory collapse” – a type of heart attack – Antonio de Nicolo, a Udine magistrate was quoted in Italian media as saying.
The magistrate added that it was “strange that such a thing happened without any warning symptoms in a profession which is so closely monitored”.
Astori’s body was taken to a hospital in Udine for an autopsy.
Fiorentina’s game was called off in the morning. The early kick off between Genoa and Cagliari, one of Astori’s former clubs, was abandoned when players learned the news while warming up on the pitch.
The Italian league then postponed the other five Serie A matches scheduled for Sunday, including the Milan derby.
Astori began his career at AC Milan, also playing for Cagliari and Roma before joining Fiorentina in 2015. He played 14 times for Italy.
Former team-mates, coaches and teams were amongst those taking to social media to express their grief.
Gianluigi Buffon, the Juventus captain, called Astori “a great man”.
“Farewell dear Asto”, wrote Buffon in a post on Instagram accompanied by a photo of the two players exchanging pennants before a game between their clubs.
Buffon said he did not usually make a habit of expressing his feelings about others.
“I want to make an exception to my rule because you have a young wife and others close to you who are suffering, but mostly because your little girl deserves to know that her dad was a good man… a great man,” Buffon wrote.
Radja Nainggolan, a Belgian international who played with Astori at two clubs, posted a photo of the two of them joyously celebrating a goal at Cagliari.
“A great player, but an even bigger man, so many battles fought together in Cagliari before coming to Rome, I cannot believe it,” he wrote.
Astori’s formative club Milan joined in.
“A man who loved football and who grew up with us. AC Milan is shocked by the tragic death of Davide Astori,” the club’s official account tweeted in English.
Matteo Renzi, a former mayor of Florence and now leader of the Democrat Party in Sunday’s Italian election, tweeted: “This seems to me impossible. I don’t believe it and I cry with the family and everyone at Fiorentina. Ciao capitano.”Facebook

Rep reveals location of abducted schoolgirls

A member of the House of Representatives, Goni Bukar says the 110 schoolgirls abducted from Government Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe state, are still within the area.

Bukar told TheNation that the Dapchi girls are currently in Bulabulin, Yunusari local government are of Yobe state.
The lawmaker said noted that Boko Haram members had been present in the state for over four years.
“The girls are within Yobe,” Bukar said. “We have an idea that they are in Bulabulin, Yunusari Local Government. The military is aware that Boko Haram has been in that place for over four years. They live in that place like their own city,” he added.

Military effort to rescue Dapchi girls

The lawmaker who praised the efforts of the military towards the rescue of the abducted Dapchi girls, however, noted that the situation deserves more commitment.
“I cannot blame the military because I am speaking with those that are carrying out the operation,” Bukar said. “We have been speaking and they are telling me everything that they are doing; so, I cannot say I will blame anybody in the military. They are doing everything but I think they need to improve in their search so as to rescue those girls.
“It is not the issue of sending 10 policemen or 20 soldiers.  It is a matter of commitment.  That is what we need. If they like, let them give me the uniform and I will wear it and go and show them the place.
“Even the day of the incident, the chairman, member, House of Assembly and I went to Gumsa because we had information that three of the girls died along the way and they were thrown away but it was wrong information,” the lawmaker said.

Terrorists storm army base, gun down 3 UN workers, soldiers

Boko Haram terrorists stormed a military base in Rann, Borno State late Thursday, March 1; before killing four Nigerian soldiers, three aid workers and a UNICEF Doctor.

The world body and two security sources initially said four people were killed in the attack in the remote town of Rann on Thursday evening but later revised the death toll.

Onslaught

The terror group also abducted three aid workers (2 from ICRC clinic team and 1 from UNICEF) in addition to killing a UNICEF Doctor and two workers from the International Organization for Migration, according to Sahara Reporters.
The report also states that at least three soldiers were abducted and three mobile police officers attached to an internally displaced persons’ camp, were killed.
Boko Haram also successfully made away with a military truck and an armored personnel carrier belonging to the Nigerian army.
Rann plays host to a camp for internally displaced persons. Several humanitarian workers catering to the needs of the displaced, also operate from Rann.
Reports say aid workers with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) were wounded in Thursday’s Boko Haram onslaught.

Technically defeated

Boko Haram has claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced thousands more since it commenced a war against the Nigerian State in 2009.
The terrorist sect seeks to carve a hardline Islamic State from northern Nigeria.
Its first leader, Mohammed Yusuf, was killed in custody of law enforcement in 2009. Abubakar Shekau who succeeded Yusuf, would turn out even more bloodthirsty.
The federal government often claims that Boko Haram has been "sufficiently degraded" and "technically defeated"; although that hasn’t stopped the terrorist sect from launching soft target attacks from its base in the Sambisa forest, now and again.

Date Night, The Disagreement And More Highlights Of Day 31 At The BB Naija 2018 House

It’s been a month now since the Housemates have moved to the BB Naija house and they have had time o get to know each other well or not as they still have time to fight among themselves. We have the housemates being petty with their challenges and the first winners and losers also emerged from the weeks task.
These are the interesting highlights of day 31 at the BB Naija house.

The Challenging Task

Big Brother gathered the housemates in the Lounge to give them further instructions for the third part of the Roc Da Mat challenge.
Housemates were already aware that they were still expected to dance to the seven songs they had been assigned. However Big Brother introduced a slight twist in that he would now be playing similar songs into the House, very similar tunes but not the right songs, and just to push Housemates a little bit further.  The caveat this time is that any Housemate caught dancing to the wrong song, that is a song not on their tracklist would have a point deducted.
As fate has it, Cee C was the first casualty of the game for she rushed onto the mat when Tekno’s tune ‘Green Light’ and not ‘Pana’ belted out the speakers. Sadly for Lolu, this meant that their pair Ceelo lost another point – in addition to the strikes they’ve jointly received. Yet Big Brother was in a lenient mood for he conceded that having Anto and Leo enact their Punishment today would hinder their participation in the challenge. To allow them to fully focus on their Task, Big Brother then postponed the Punishment to Friday, a news greeted with broad smiles by Housemates.
When the first Ninja emerged out of the elevator, Housemates knew it was time to open the fourth box. Biggie appointed Teddy A to go pick the key from the Ninja’s basket. He swiftly entered the glass room to open the corresponding box, that to everyone’s surprise contained a ₦2.5 million reward for the pair that would win the weekly challenge. Later a second Ninja walked into the Lounge, and this time it was Ifu Ennada who had the privilege of unlocking the box only to be slightly deceived by its Punishment of barking, begging and behaving like a dog
By the end of the day, Ifu Ennda and Leo (Lifu) together with Tobi and Alex (Tolx) were leading the game with five points, while Teddy A and Nina are at the bottom.

Cee C And Lolu’s Exchange

Here’s a reminder, lest we forget the show’s tagline, Double Wahala. Without fail and within a short period of time, Ceelo has managed to remind us that multiple folds of drama can in fact be found in one place, where else but the Big Brother House?
Lolu, an ex-constituent of Loto has had his fair share of drama and seems to have come out stronger and more resilient. According to the signals he’s given, his and Anto’s was not just strategic pairing, the girl was literally his muse; so much so that even through Big Brother’s reshuffles, his eye’s gaze has never wondered away from her. We were introduced to his emotional side when his name was mentioned by Dj Xclusive during the Saturday night turn up and further explored his softness and fragility when he spoke of his mom and upbringing. The screams and hurling of insults pretty much began when he was initially paired with Cee-C and it seems to be spiralling out  of control.
While Cee C has been the centre of controversy for a while now. Initially paired with Tobi and having enjoyed the HoH luxuries for a good two weeks. Her gaming approach was somewhat confusing and had the other Housemates thinking that she placed herself on a pedestal too high and felt they were all commoners. This brings us to the question of personality dynamics; it seems as though the other Housemates simply judged her without actually getting to know her. After much self-containment, she finally let out a more emotional and longing side to herself. In her own way, she finally reciprocated Tobi’s feelings and although that didn’t end so well, he seems to still see the softness in her, which really does exist. Afterall, the more responsive, the more sensitive. She’s simply a caterpillar that needs to be allowed to bloom into a butterfly.
The two have completely different personalities and seem to be totally aware of themselves, hence the constant quarrels. None accepts to be completely submerged in the others’ comforts. Today’s explosion stems from various things; Lolu constantly warning Cee-C to keep to herself and avoid being too explosive; while she feels that even though in a partnership, they should still strive on free masonry. Ultimately, this is what the show is about; interactions between people of different backgrounds and schools of thought. The drama is just a bread crumb from the main table. If this is their strategy; it certainly is raising a lot of eyebrows. Will they survive the chopping board and avoid wanting to literally chop each other?

Date Night

Despite the blood rush causing moments, Cee C and Tobi seemed to be civil towards each other and acted as normally as they both could manage. Between all the music and dancing, yet another conversation seemed to have taken place between the two of them, one that lead to Cee C agreeing to a date with him. Remember his request for a box of chocolates to gift Cee-C as token of his apology? He decided to take the initiative and with the help of Chef Rico Swavey, served a simple but thoroughly thought through moon lit dinner. Clearly dressed to impress and ready to verbally caress, Tobi sweetly directed Cee-C to her seat and sealed their little romantic cocoon by shutting the front doors. Even a blind man could see how smitten they both were; the oga even reached out and fixed her hair, to which she obliged.
Cee C seemed to be unable to let the save and replace matter go and Tobi explained his reasons for putting her and Lolu up for Eviction; elaborating that even though he felt so strongly for her, his principal objective wasn’t romance and he therefore needed to strategise accordingly. She too expressed her dissatisfaction and how broken she was by it. Fast forwarding to today after her quarrelsome episodes with Nina, Miracle and Lolu; it did look like Tobi was more for the others than he was for her for which he eventually apologised.
Strategy or not, Cee C was obviously very shattered by the candy coated betrayal and having been the one to have spent the most time with her, Tobi understood just how much this turn of events affected her, hence his gesture. We’re beginning to wonder whether his feelings are real or he’s just playing the ‘Keep your enemies closer’ game. Nonetheless, this whole thing gave us goose bumps all over.
