Pakistani girls’ rights activist, Malala Yousafzai was today named joint winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize
Malala Yousafzai is officially an icon after she was named winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize today, October 10.
The 17-year-old shares the award, worth $1.1 million, with Indian child rights campaigner, Kailash Satyarthi.
Malala has come a long way from being a young Pakistani schoolgirl fighting for equal educational rights in country.

  1. She was born on July 12, 1997 in Pakistan
  2. Her name “Malala” means "grief-stricken"
  3. She was shot by the Taliban on October 9, 2012 for her outspokenness in campaigning for equal educational rights for young girls
  4. She is currently schooling at the Edgbaston High School in Birmingham
  5. She has been described by Deutsche Welle in January 2013 as "the most famous teenager in the world."
  6. She is the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize
