Zambia left for Niger on a chartered plane on Thursday afternoon ahead of their must-win 2015 Africa Cup Group F qualifying match against Niger on Saturday in Niamey.
Chipolopolo flew out from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka at 4:15p,m on a five hour, thirteen minute flight to Niger.
“The target is to get three points. We are looking at winning this game that is what is on our mind and the boys know that,” Zambia coach Honour Janza said just before boarding the plane to Niamey.
Missing from the 24-member team was defender Stopilla Sunzu of French Ligue 1 club Sochaux who left camp on Wednesday following the death of his sister.
Two other home-based players were dropped from the team and they are Konkola Blades striker Humphrey Maseneko and Nchanga Rangers midfielder Larry Bwalya.
The travelling party also included two prominent home-based players who were cut from Zambia’s opening two Group F qualifiers against Mozambique and Cape Verde.
Nkana striker Ronald Kampamba and Zanaco’s utility midfielder Roderick Kabwe have both been picked for the doubleheader.
Overall, the team consists of eleven overseas based players who included captain Christopher Katongo of PSL side Bidvest Wits.
The other thirteen seats on the plane were taken up by players plying their trade in the FAZ Super League.
Zambia are third in Group F with one point, tied with hosts Niger and are five points behind leaders Cape Verde while Mozambique is second with two points.
