Austin Eguavoen has been unveiled as the new technical adviser of Nigeria Professional Football League outfit, Sunshine Stars.
The former Enyimba and Gombe United boss has been handed a short-term contract till the end of the season, ending weeks of speculation linking him to the Owena Whales job.
The 51-year-old replaces Kayode Olujohungbe, who was asked to step aside following the team’s poor run in the Nigeria topflight this season.
Also, his former national team teammate Ike Shorunmu was named club’s goalkeeper trainer. Both have been given the mandate to rescue the team from getting relegated plus doing well in this year’s Federation Cup.
Should they achieve their targets, they would have their contracts reveiwed - seeing their stay extended at the Akure Towship Stadium.
Sunshine Stars are 17th on the Nigeria Professional Football League log with 21 points from 18 games. ‘Cerezo’ as he is popularly called begins his reign against Enugu Rangers in a rescheduled Nigeria topflight encounter on Sunday April 30.
Meanwhile, coach Olujohungbe remains a part of the team but his role will be defined when the management meets in few days time.
