All three incumbent senators from Abia State and some gubernatorial aspirants from Abia State have disowned the result of the ward congresses purportedly conducted last Saturday, saying that there were no congresses.
Senators Uche Chukwumerije, Nkechi Nwaogu and Enyinnninya Abaribe in a joint petition with other party stakeholders affirmed that there were no congresses as they claimed that results were written down by agents of the administration.
Other stakeholders who assented to the petition were the erstwhile Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Dr. Alex Otti, a former Deputy Governor, Chief Eric Nwakanma, Chief Uzoma Abonta, Solomon Ogunji, Rev. G Nwambu, Emeka Atuma and Nze Esiaga.
Their claim was sharply rebuffed by the Special Adviser to Governor Theodore Orji on Electronic Media, Ugochukwu Emezue, who insisted that ward congress successfully held everywhere in Abia.
In their petition, they said: Our party members and delegate aspirants yesterday, November 1, 2014 ( supposed to be the day of the congresses that never took place) dispersed after 6p.m. when nobody came to conduct the congress elections.”
There was an allegation about the disappearance of the party membership registers of all the 184 wards in Abia contrary to the guidelines for conduct of congresses.
Tony Ceaser Okeke team’s failure to produce the mandatory election materials: Collation materials, identity tags for those to supervise the elections also made matters worse as there were no party registers and even nobody deployed to the field.
It was alleged thagt crowds anxiously waited up to 5.30 and 6p.m., got tired and dispersed to their homes; which means that no congress held anywhere in Abia.
