Shakes Mashaba wants to seal Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals this weekend to avoid the strain of going away to Nigeria still needing a result.
Bafana will secure qualification with a win against Sudan on Saturday afternoon at Moses Mabhida Stadium, making their trip to the newly-built Akwa Ibom Stadium just a date to fulfill a fixture.
Bafana lead Group A with eight points from four games and just need one win out of the remaining two games against Sudan and Nigeria to go through as one of the top two teams in the group.
Whether the Nations Cup still goes ahead as planned due to hosts Morocco’s withdrawal remains to be seen but, regardless, Mashaba wants to get the job done this weekend.
“We don’t prioritise any of the games …we take them all equally,” he says. “It is going to be more than the three points at stake. However, I will be happy if we sum up this by beating Sudan, which will make our life easy when we go to Nigeria.”
Bafana’s trip to Nigeria will come at a time when the Super Eagles are stung by chaos in their technical team, with Stephen Keshi back in charge after being sacked last month.
“What we usually do is try to put soundproofs around ourselves,” Mashaba adds. “We don’t want to hear anything about what is going on in their camp. We will only see them on the day when we go and play them.
“We don’t even discuss it as a technical committee because it might mislead us as we will say they are not right yet we are only causing problems for ourselves.”
