Milan deserved to lose and it's my fault - Inzaghi

The Rossoneri coach feels his side can learn from the defeat to Palermo, but says he has to take responsibility for the team's failings
Filippo Inzaghi has admitted AC Milan deserved to lose to Palermo after they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to the Sicilian side on Sunday.
Cristian Zapata gave the visitors the lead with an own goal before he was easily knocked off the ball by Paulo Dybala who then doubled his side's lead.
And Inzaghi admitted that his side were not good enough against the newly promoted side, but says he deserves the blame.
"This is football," he told Sky Sport. "I said yesterday that Palermo were tough - they played very well at Napoli.
"We hadn’t started that badly with Andrea Poli and Fernando Torres coming close, so if those chances had gone in it would have been a different game, but Palermo scored first and they deserved the victory. We tip our hat to them.
"Nights like this can also help you grow. I take responsibility. We can’t wait to get back on the field to face Sampdoria to make up for this performance.
"We have done some very positive things this season. We didn’t tonight, but I knew there were going to be troughs as well as peaks.
"Perhaps some people got ahead of themselves. It is a shame that we played like this at San Siro in front of the home fansIt was a bad performance and Palermo deserved the points."
Despite his team not scoring at San Siro on Sunday, Inzaghi pinpointed Milan's defence as the problem and hinted that improving the Rossoneri was never going to happen overnight.
"I expected it to be difficult to get Milan back to a certain level after finishing eighth with many new players," he added.
"We had a surprisingly good start, but at times we struggle to react when going behind. I’ve seen other squads working with a coach for a long time also running into similar problems.
"We have players who can almost always find a goal, so the defensive movements are more important for me. When you suffer at the back, it means the whole team hasn’t worked well. Then Alex went off straight away, Zapata had to go on without a warm-up and he immediately felt some pain too. It was just one of those nights.
"I am the coach, I’ll try to work out where I went wrong, but this squad must be allowed to grow in good time. It was a heavy blow, but we’ll get back up.
"I tried to change system and introduce almost all the strikers at my disposal. Perhaps the third game in seven days took its toll on our fitness levels. We must remember the team has done well until now and this was a stumble, but we’d be right back up there if we beat Sampdoria next week."
