The talented forward has admitted his delight at setting a new goals record in the Nigeria league but was disappointed the People’s Elephant lost out on the title race
Enyimba striker Mfon Udoh, who set a new scoring record of 21 goals in the Nigeria Professional Football League, has told Goal he is overwhelmed by the historic feat and is still hungry for more.
Udoh surpassed the previous 20 goals record set by Jude Aneke at Kaduna United when he scored the People’s Elephants equalizer at Dolphins in a Week 37 tielast weekend. But he could not find the second to keep his club’s title ambitions alive.
The 22-year-old, who has scored a total of 23 goals in all competitions, is expected to feature in the home-based Super Eagles’ international friendly with Ghana’s U23 national team during the grand opening of the ultra-modern Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo on Friday.
“I am very happy with this feat; it is a thing of joy to me to write my name in Nigerian football history. It's a dream come true. I am looking forward to more goals in our next game,” Udoh told Goal .
The former Akwa United star admitted it was sad that his club will yet miss out on the title after Kano Pillars successfully defended their title for the third time in a row following a 4-0 victory over relegated Nembe City on Sunday.
“I am sad we couldn’t win the title. I can’t say more than that for now,” he said.
Udoh and his side will be bidding to clinch a Caf Champions League place when they welcome Pillars in their last match of the season in Aba on Sunday.
