BARELY twenty four hours after he declared to run for the 2015 Presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, 28 groups across the country have so far endorsed the presidential bid of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a joint statement made available to Journalists yesterday in Abuja by the groups, they stressed that their endorsement of the candidature of Atiku was against the backdrop of “his programmes contain the most thought-out agenda for the youths.”
The groups include the Save Nigeria APC Group, Turaki Network for Change, Atiku Youth Assembly, Atiku Youth Vanguard, Turaki Network East Alliance, Igbo Progressive Forum, Northern Youth Voters Forum, Northern Grassroots Advocacy Group and Raba Gargadama Nationwide.
Others were National Youth Advocacy for Good Governance, APC Youth Congress, ABUFON 2015, Turaki Support Group, North East Progressive Movement, Mohammed Dukku-Atiku Support Group, Bauchi Youth Coalition for Turaki, North-East Integrated Youth Organisation, APC Women/Youth League, Bauchi Assembly of Youths and Political Actors for Progressive Change, Atangha Atangha, Delta Horizon Group, Rescue Youth Group, Special Disability Aid in Action and Bauchi Youth Coalition for Turaki.
Meanwhile, one of the groups from the South-west, AAA Collective, has also clarified its position on its earlier endorsement of the former Vice President.
The statement read, “Having listened to the Turaki Adamawa at different fora and during his presidential bid declaration speech, we have all come to a common and indisputable conclusion that he (Atiku) is ready more than anyone else among those contending for the presidency in 2015, to accommodate the youths and address issues of concern to us if he becomes the president of this country.
“Consequently, we have decided to throw our unalloyed support behind his candidature and also encourage other youth groups across the country to take the same decision.”
In a related development, chairman of the Atiku Collectives, Chief Bode Ajewole, has said that contrary to media reports, the endorsement of Atiku by his group has nothing to do with the South-west caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajewole in a statement said, “It is important to clarify that the endorsement of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar by the Atiku Collectives has got nothing to do with the official body of the party.
“Although our members are card carrying members of the APC, we need to stress that our decision to back the presidential aspiration of Atiku Abubakar is solely a personal decision exclusive to members of our organisation and the APC as a political party is totally not a part of the decision that we have taken.”
