Here Are 8 Things You Didn’t Know About Mavin First Lady, Tiwa Savage


Tiwatope Savage Balogun is a sexy and vivacious songstress who has garnered tons of international repute. She is arguably the current queen of Nigerian R&B. 

As Mavin first lady, she has solidified her presence is what has been dubbed as Nigeria’s biggest group so far judging from the widespread success of their hit single, ‘Dorobucci’. 

Here are 8 things you probably didn’t know about Tiwa: 

1. She is 34 years of age and is currently married to her manager, Tee Bilz, 
2. In 2006, she participated in the UK version of the X factor while she was enrolled in the         Berklee College of Music. She graduated from Berklee at the age of 27. 
3. She also co-wrote Fantasia Barrino’s “Collard Greens & Cornbread” which won a                   Grammy award in 2010.
4.  In 2009, she got signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing giving her the opportunity to write      songs for top international artistes. 
5.  She has signed endorsement deals with MTN, Pepsi, Maggi and Forte Oil. 
     Her endorsement deal with Pepsi made her the first female African artiste to be signed          to the brand. 
6. She has bagged numerous awards and nominations including one MTV Africa Awards         and a BET Awards nomination in 2014. 
7. Tiwa has performed on the same stage as people like 50 Cent, Eminem, Destiny’s Child        and Mary J. Blige. She used to be a back up singer for Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu          Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, and Ms. Dynamite among                others.
8.  In December 2011, she co-hosted Season 2 of the Nigerian Idol alongside IllRymz and          has also appeared on a stage play titled ‘For Coloured Girls’ which featured the likes of        Ireti Doyle and Joke Silva.
