PRAYERS were daily offered for God’s intervention at the ongoing 17th annual Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, as several eminent gospel ministers from other denominations led the daily expanding crowd of worshippers in supplication to intercede for the family, the church, youth and the nation at large.
On Thursday night, at least two Pentecostal bishops, two Pentecostal pastors and one prophet including former CAN Vice President, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Bishop Joe Imakando of Bread of Life Church, Zambia, CAN president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye were all on parade at the star-studded day.
Speaking on a topic: “Peace be still”, Pastor Oritsejafor, in his sermon told the crowd that the country will not go under in spite of the series of challenges confronting the country.
Defining peace as the ability to rest in the presence of war, he urged the congregation not to forget the place of God in the country, saying God is still inside the boat of Nigeria. He prayed that the Good Shepherd is giving peace to the nation, peace in all communities and individual life.
Urging the worshippers and Christians in general, to allow God take charge of all the affairs of their lives, CAN president said God can only manifest His awesomeness if man allows Him to enter the boat of his or her life.
Leading the congregation on prayer for families, the General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church, Prophet S.K Abiara advised couples to honour and keep their vows of marriage, explaining that for peace to reign in the family, it is paramount for couples to adhere strictly to their marriage vows.
The man of God said there was need for Christians to pray for peace in families as peace experienced in individual family will transcend to the nation as a whole. He added that marriage is like a car which nobody can drive without obeying its rules.
Describing love as the bedrock of any marriage, Abiara asked husbands to love their wives, learn to forgive and forget, adding that any of the couple who failed to forgive the wrong committed by his or her partner was wicked person.
Presiding bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Bishop Okonkwo, speaking on “The Church”, told the worshippers that the Church, as a body of Christ, has lot of responsibilities saddled on it to show forth God’s light, reveal God’s agenda for mankind, most powerful agent of change that God placed on earth, saying anything against such is a disappointment to God’s kingdom.
Also ministering, spiritual head of Bread of Life Fellowship, Zambia, Bishop Joe Imakando, speaking on “The power of knowledge”, described knowledge as an essential tool that man needs to be successful in life, pointing out that many Christians struggle in poverty, some destroyed and deceived by false prophets because they lack the true knowledge of God.
Enumerating the importance of knowledge, Imakando said “knowledge influences one’s personality, puts one in charge, determines how far one can go in life, knowledge has the ability to set one free from deception, false doctrine as it helps man to be successful in life and set one free from ignorance”.
Headlining activities for the fourth day of the congress with a short message titled; “In His Name”, the general overseer of the church, Pastor Adeboye said the Great Shepherd has many names and each of the names has its purpose. As the Way, he said God makes a way where people said there is no way, adding that his name guarantees freedom. As Life His name has the power to rescue one from the jaws of death. Continuing, Adeboye said Jesus name makes life wonderful, can do the impossible as He specialises in special miracles and as Mighty God, He can still the storms in a man’s life.
Pastor Adeboye warned that sin, unforgiveness, not having right perspective for getting breakthrough, laziness in place of prayer, failure to pay vows among others as some of the obstacles that hinder prayers.
He assured that God answers prayers because He is faithful, He is the Almighty, He is All Sufficient, loves mankind, merciful and that God wants to glorify Himself in the lives of the people.
