No plan to bomb 3 northern universities

A group, Elite Youths Development Initiative, has denied the claim in certain quarters that the Federal Government was planning to bomb three northern universities and blame the Boko Haram sect for the heinous action.
The information went viral yesterday through a strange organisation known as “Nigeria Information”, which claimed that the Presidency was behind the move to destroy the institutions.
The said document, which was couched in Hausa, listed the three universities lined up for bombing as Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto.
But in discountenancing the information, EYDI implored Nigerians to disregard information being circulated to the effect that the presidency was hatching a plan to bomb the three major universities in the North under the guise of a Boko Haram onslaught.
The group described the allegation as “very dangerous” information laced with lies and conjectures meant to deceive the people and bring disaffection.
The statement signed by the Secretary of EYDI, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, said that the fake document was meant to incite Nigerians to resort to violence and take the laws into their hands.
It called on security agencies in the country to fish out the masterminds of the inciting document so as to prevent them from plunging the country into avoidable crisis.
According to the group, the Jonathan administration had been working tirelessly to improve the educational system with the establishment of nine new Federal Universities, most of which were sited in the northern part of Nigeria.
“It is also on record that this government initiated a move to transform the Almajiri system by modernising it and improving the teaching environment,” the group said.
“Mr. President is a peace-loving person who does not believe in violence and he is always preoccupied with finding solutions to the mayhem and killings in the North and other parts of the country”.
“We strongly appeal to all Nigerians to disregard this wild propaganda contained in the said document. Everybody should be calm and all Nigerians should be rest assured that nothing will happen to anyone.
“We often get bewildered by the rate at which Hausa language is used to disseminate falsehood and dangerous propaganda through the Internet and other social media platforms.
